If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, life-saving help is available at the EPIC Recovery Center.
RECOVERY STARTS HERE

At EPIC, we focus on a person-centered approach that respects your choices and guides you through recovery with compassion. Our experienced team provides quality care to help clients overcome challenges and resist relapse. Substance use affects millions of Americans and their loved ones. If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use or co-occurring disorders, you’re not alone. EPIC offers the tools for a more peaceful and productive life.

The EPIC Recovery Center offers several treatment services: Detoxification, Outpatient, Residential Treatment, and Sober Living options. Addiction is treatable. People Recover. We can help.
We opened the EPIC Recovery Center in 2014 in order to provide a three-tiered program of detoxification, residential and outpatient treatment services.
While we are grateful to be able to offer this service, the need to enhance and expand continues to grow.
Your investment in the EPIC Recovery Center will allow us to reach even further in continuing to help some of our community’s most vulnerable citizens in their battle against addiction.
Detox rids the body of alcohol and/or drugs. Theraphy builds new ways to manage the things that led to the use of alcohol and/or drugs. Both are needed. The EPIC Recovery Center program is three-tiered, offering detoxification, residential, and outpatient treatment services. We base our treatment plans on individual needs and accept patients who are at risk for physical withdrawal. Withdrawal is treated using medication in conjunction with individual and group therapy. Overcoming addiction can be an intensive and long endeavor. Our trained medical staff will be there for you every step of the way in your journey, providing compassion, support and healing.
Completing drug or alcohol detox is a major accomplishment, but it isn’t the final step. Whether it’s days, weeks, months or years after leaving detox, individuals in recovery are still at risk for relapse. Having a co-occurring disorder — a mental health condition that occurs along with a substance use disorder — can also increase the risk of a relapse. Our aftercare programs are designed to help minimize that risk and keep you moving forward on your recovery path.
From the time you enroll in our Detox Center whether to treat alcoholism or a drug addiction, our team will be there every step of the way, preparing you for the days following your successful completion of the program. With therapeutic support and specialized group therapy, you can maintain your hard-won sobriety and build a solid foundation for recovery.
Our residential treatment program is highly recommended, especially for individuals who lack a supportive home environment and are particularly susceptible to relapse. During this program, patients stay for up to 30 days. This transitional level of care focuses on relapse prevention therapy, addresses unresolved personal issues, and provides a safe and secure environment where patients can learn and practice recovery skills. We also encourage the involvement of family members or support structures to enhance the recovery process and help establish a more supportive social network outside of treatment. Patients will receive individual therapy and have the opportunity to attend recovery-focused meetings in the community.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, every day, more than 90 Americans die after overdosing on opioids. Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and pain relievers available legally by prescription, such as oxycodone (OxyContin®), hydrocodone (Vicodin®), codeine, morphine, and many others.
Any long-term use can put someone at risk of addiction, even if the substance is used as prescribed. Many people who use opioids will develop a tolerance to them–a phenomenon that can trigger the cycle of addiction. This means that the same amount of the drug no longer has the same effect as it once did. When this occurs, people routinely take more and more of the substance to elicit the desired response. This ever-increasing dosing places one at great risk for overdose.
St. Johns County and surrounding areas are being affected by the opioid/heroin epidemic. Opioid addiction can be very frightening – not only for the individual with the addiction but for their family and friends as well. Breaking free of opioid, heroin, or prescription drug abuse takes effort and it’s difficult to do safely alone. EPIC can help and at the same time, we can provide support to family members.
THE SECOND WIND VILLAGE SOBER LIVING HOUSING PROGRAM
EPIC’s Second Wind Village Sober Living program provides a safe and structured environment for residents in recovery to heal and build lives free from addiction. We prioritize personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and support for long-term sobriety. Our mission is to help residents rebuild their lives by offering stable housing, developing life skills, and creating pathways to employment and independence.
Our residents, many of whom have experienced homelessness, share a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder and must commit to a minimum of six months to a year in our program. This commitment includes maintaining full-time employment, attending daily Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings, and participating in random drug screenings.
The Program Provides:
Our Team
A dedicated team leads Second Wind Village: EPIC Director James Lynam, House Manager Ann Davis, Employment Vocational Specialist Dr. Terica Fullwood, EdD, MiM, and peer support specialists Paul Journey and Anne Mountain. They provide the support and resources residents need to maintain sobriety.
Our Vision for Growth
Looking ahead, Second Wind is committed to expanding its capacity to serve more people in need. Our goal is to replicate this model, expand our reach, and continue offering life-changing support to individuals battling substance-use disorders. Sober Living programs are critical for long term recovery. The number one reason for relapses is finding a safe and sober living environment where one can thrive.
Success Stories
The impact of Second Wind Village is best told through the voices of our residents. One female client shared her journey with us, explaining how she came to EPIC after nearly losing her children, job, and home due to alcoholism. After completing the detox program, she entered Second Wind’s sober living facility, which she credits with transforming her life. Through our support and the connections, she made with others in recovery, she rebuilt her life, found stable housing, and is now on the path to homeownership through the Homeless Coalition.
A male client also shared his experience, saying that after a year at Second Wind, he was able to move out with a solid foundation for maintaining his recovery. He spoke about the importance of weekly house meetings, which are essential for life skills such as budgeting, emotional regulation, and work-life balance. With the support of the staff and his peers, he felt fully prepared to continue his recovery journey independently.
Our Impact
Every house represents a new beginning. Every bed represents a second chance. Through stable housing, skill-building, and career pathways, Second Wind helps individuals reclaim their lives, reconnect with their families, and reintegrate successfully into their communities.
